First time pcar owner: 2004 Boxster S

Trolled this forum long enough. A few hours at the Atlanta Porsche experience center driving the new 718 was all I needed to cement my decision. With your guidance I drove 5 hours to pick up this fantastically maintained 04 boxster s with 102k on the odometer. Looking forward to getting my soft, office worker hands a little bit dirtier as I pick up some DIY confidence with this car. I have a BMW as a daily driver but unless it's snowing out this car will get at least 2 days of drive time a week. Really excited to be a more active member. Thanks for all the advice so far

Welcome and nice car, I'm partial to black. Seems like you're an old timer already!

Thank you! I'd call it Central (near Hamilton/Bordentown) but some people call that South. Who the hell knows.

I told my wife "Take away the fancy emblem and its just a $10k used car, so I'm driving it unless it's snowing".

I'm just south of Cherry Hill. I drive up 295 all the time as my kids live in north jersey
Same, I drive in the Winter when the weather and salt are clear, that's on Summer tires which many say NOOOOOOOOO. I just take it a bit slower, not much slower

Take train to work so my driving these days is when ever I don't need the SUV

I'll keep an eye out for a Blk Boxster

How has the first 6 months of ownership gone? I'm in the market with a similar budget. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around buying a car the 80k+ miles on it.

Well......

4 weeks in I was driving to the bank on cold tires and was not paying as much attention as these cars rightfully deserve. Ended up on the side of the road with a totalled car. Learned a humbling lesson that day, luckily nobody was hurt. As my first ever at fault accident it felt pretty crappy. My advice is to heat those tires up, even if they're so called all seasons! And pay attention instead of daydreaming.

I'm now in the market again. I'd say high mileage shouldn't scare you off IF there's good historical evidence of maintenance and proper ownership. Suspension work, new clutch, etc can all come out of the woodwork. But I would not hesitate to buy another one with 90-99k miles.

Thanks! Luckily my insurance covered the cost of the car and then some, since I got a great deal on it. So other than a bruised ego I am not too upset. I'll forever keep a pic of the crashed one on my sun visor as a reminder.

Well I guess we are waiting on you posting second time P-Car Owner with experience!!! Glad you weren't injured, on a positive note you now have some experience with the Boxster and really do an educated search for an even better one!

Honestly after driving the east coast last year to McGuire AFB NJ, not sure how more people aren't killed, was glad to return to European driving.

Well that's certainly a very unfortunate event. I gauge my cold tire readiness by when the flat spotting from sitting in the garage finally round out. That can take 10-15+ miles hwy driving in the winter.
Well hopefully you rejoin the ranks
