Hello All!

Hey Folks,

Thanks for allowing me to join this forum. I'm absolutely new to the Porsche community and I know nothing about these cars. I recently was given a 2001 Porsche Boxster which had been sitting in a friend's back yard for two years. There's quite a bit of work that needs to be done to it and the paint is definitely sun damaged which I will have repainted when everything is done.

I did have a question. The convertible motor appears to be dead and I cannot get the roof to go to service mode as I have unlocked it and upon pressing the convertible button to open, it does nothing. Can anyone be kind enough to tell me an alternative way to open the engine compartment so I can replace the motor despite the convertible top not being able to open? SMH.

Thanks in advance!!

When you turn on the ignition and set the parking brake, does the brake light come on in the dash? If not, it's probably the switch under the console. Very cheap, fairly easy to fix.

Also, even though it was given to you, be aware that one of these cars, abandoned to the weather can cost a bunch of money to bring back. No such thing as a cheap Porsche, even when it was free.

Thanks for the posting. I figured it would be expensive. I'm taking my time with this as I've listed everything I need to possibly repair/replace along with some stuff I want to do to it. I'm still trying to learn everything about this car. Will keep you posted! Thanks!!

The car really isn't in that bad a shape. I was able to drive it around a bit. Runs well. The previous owner rarely drove it (78,000 miles in 15 years) and everything is original with the exception of the now faded rear plastic window.

But here's what it looks like.
