Buying a 2000 986

Hello all, Coming in to say hi and get to know people here. I'm looking into buying a 2000 Boxster. It's Speed Yellow, black leather with 55k miles, one owner but, from a Porsche Dealer. They're asking 15,995 for it. I'm justifying the price because the paint and interior are in near perfect condition. I currently own a 2002 Ford Mustang but, I'm looking forward to getting the Porsche.

It hasn't had the engine replaced. Things could get dicey if it suffers IMS failure.

Hopefully next weekend I'll get to take some nice pictures if I get it.

I just bought a '99 black box with black interior with 59K on it last month. The car is in good shape, perfect paint and interior as well, but I did put a new exhaust on it for 1.8K. Totally a non-necessary upgrade. Just remember with your mileage that your 60K maintenance is coming up and other maintenance things WILL pop up over the next year or two.

From everything I've read, there will be obvious maintenance costs with cars of this age. I bought mine for $10,000 (after $4,500 for a trade of an '02 RSX) from an independent import dealer, 1 owner, garage kept. I made a deal with myself that I could put as much as $5,000 between maintenance and my own (non-necessary upgrades). Nothing in life is guaranteed but these cars are reliable if you keep up with the maintenance.

But most of all enjoy the car and look forward to topdown weather. I'm getting killed in Philly with the snow so it will all be worth it in a few months. Good luck!

JD
