Bumperettes removal from 2001 986

I want to paint the black bumperettes on my 986 but can't seem to remove them from the bumper. I have no problem getting the bolt out on each but can't seem to get the bumperette to fall off and I didn't want to force it. Once the bolt is out do I just tug the bumperette straight back or do I have to slide it or tilt it to remove?

I've done this job a few times using a bumper paint. I worked great and holds up quite well. I'm sure you'll be proud of the results.

In about 2 weeks I will be sporting some Slate Grey Metallic bumperettes.

I have removed mine completely along with the brackets. Ordered a piece of ABS plastic, cut to size and attach to the area where the bumperettes were and license plate. I think I will leave it black. My car is arctic silve and I think the black would be a nice accent piece. But I might paint to match car.

Here is rear bumper with bumperettes removed and filler plate installed.

I finally got a chance to paint my bumperettes. Bought primers and paints from Automotive Touch up Paints. Project came out beautiful, even on a Metallic Slate color. Did the whole project for less than $50 delivered, with plenty of paint left over for future needs.
I used Adhesion promoter (3 coats), Primer (3 coats), then wet sanded with 1000 grit, Paint (5 coats), Clear Coat (5 coats). Put bumperettes in a cardboard box with a 40 watt lightbulb and let them cure for 4 hours, voila!
I'll post some pics once the sun comes out again. We haven't had rain all winter and now we actually are getting rain for the next few days, go figure.

@Randall,
there is a company that sells a "filler plate', aluminum for $200. I bought a piece of ABS, made my template then had it cut by a glass shop. Much less than $200!

I am going to be tackling this 'filler plate" project this weekend, painted to match car. Wish me luck, will post a pic when complete.

UK Boxster don't have bumperettes fitted but I wanted a contrast around my licence plate so fixed some black vinyl in the recess.
