Convertible top closing issue

98 Boxster Base convertible top issue. During close, the left edge does not go into the plastic groove it goes inboard. I can back it up slightly, pull the edge into place and close the top normally. The previous owner told me he thought the cause was the traction noose on the left side had become nearly detached from the top edge. I sewed the noose back to the top edge and it still won't track into the groove.
Don't have an image as the car is in storage until spring. Any ideas?
Thanks
