engine blower fan noisey

My engine compartment fan is making a noise like something is hitting the fan blades or something in it. I drive it in the winter so it hadn`t come on for a while. What is the easiest way to inspect it . Remove grill or remove fan?

Put the top in the service position, remove the carpet / sound deadening lid and get to the fan from the top - easy to see and remove.
