Plenty of people have fitted it to 987/997 yes

The 9X7 shifter is a bit shorter than the 9X6 one, but still cushioned, and when it's worn, you have no other choice than to replace it.

If the one you have is brand new, you can give it a try, then fit one of mine later if you want something more precise !
