Changed badge on 3 spoke wheel...

I've had my car for 3 months now and from the very beginning the silver crest on the steering wheel bugged me.

After looking into replacing it I realised the only real way was to buy a replacement airbag unit with the coloured crest.

At the dealer this was coming in at well over £300.. money the wife wouldn't let me spend..

So I found a replacement badge on eBay for under £10. Its not an exact replica but looks good enough, only those with real good eyes would notice its not genuine, anywho I cracked on and looked into getting the old crest off.

After abit of reading and playing around with screwdrivers trying to prise the crest off, it turned out its secured from behind (inside the airbag unit).. not good.

I didn't fancy trying to disassemble the airbag just to change the badge, so I cut it off instead with my trusty dremel..

Before -

X marks the spot -

Pliers helped here...

Then it simply fell off -

New badge glued onto the metal pin -

and back in the car -

By gluing the new crest to the existing metal pin from the old crest I'm hoping i'll not get too injured should the airbag get deployed.

Took me all of 45 minutes, saved me £300....

Cheers

Mel

Mel,

Nice job! I wanted to switch the color of my crest as well
(except I wanted to go from gold to silver). I was too afraid to try your method so I had to do it the conventional way.

I believe Porsche only used the silver crests on cars from MY 2000 to celebrate some anniversary. They're always celebrating something and makeing special editions to commemorate it.

Mine is a 2001 and it is silver and I don't like it either.

I'd like to change mine from silver to gold colored. But buying another air bag is to steep for me. I think I'll try painting it and see how that turns out.
