Really?? I've never (knock on wood) seen any bits of anything, metal, plastic or otherwise...kinda like it that way.

I bet if you really look next time, you'll find little brown pieces of plastic. The chain tensioners are under constant wear.

OK, I'll try that...but (!) I've looked pretty closely on previous occasions---even ran my finger over the surfaces, flattening out the pleats in the process. (I don't disagree for a second with your chain tensioner comment. )
