I had an engine which had hydrolocked, and when the PO went to start it, a rod bent. There was no other damage, but we stripped it down completely and inspected it, then shipped it off to be nikisiled and rebored to spec. We then rebuilt and put a lot of LNE goodies in (billet tensioner, hex drive, IMSB). All new OEM bearings, rings, tensioners, chain guides, valve job, the works) -- nobody wants an expensive 2.7 engine so I couldn't sell it.
So, I picked up a mint 2002 2.7 manual that had an IMS failure - it has 11,385 miles on the chassis. I've been able to find only one ding in the door handle. Otherwise the car looks to be from the showroom. No special options that I am aware of, but it does have an aftermarket satellite NAV.
I'd love to keep it - but this is P-car #10, and we only have 2 drivers, granted 5 are track cars -- but still :-)
Did the engine swap -- and fired it up yesterday. Have to go through the break-in sequence and button the back end up, but when I get back from a 2 week trip (not in the Boxster) -- it will be time to move it.
What is it realistically worth?
