good tires, good fuel, and seat time.

But since that's the most generic answer ever, I'll also throw in:

1) Weight savings. The 986 is surprisingly heavy given it's size. (~2900 lbs stock)

2) Camber. The rear factory limit is about 2.5-2.7 degrees, which isn't bad, but the front is less than 1 degree.

3) Short shifter. This one, specifically: https://uniwerksdesign.com/product/bens-porsche-996-986-short-shifter/ Amazing quality, and lower price than most others.

4) Thermostat. After a couple of hard laps, we noticed the temperature creeping up. The car never overheated, but we figured if we can keep it down, we could. You can get a 160 degree thermostat, vs the 180 degree stock.

5 A full exhaust, if only to let the M96 sing her song.

Plenum and 74mm throttle body, several ways to accomplish and I will not open the debate between them. FVD Exhaust, chip tune.

Agee; these are also great for a 3.2 "S"

Depends on what your purpose/goal is.

AutoX & track = Front GT3 control arms, tires, & alignment.

Going fast on highways - plenum, header, & exhaust.

Besides good driving instruction and fitness, I would start with the low hanging fruit first.

A deeper sump to add some engine protection.

An under drive pulley is the cheapest 5 HP you can buy and will also protect your power steering pump on the track.

DOT 4 brake fluid for a higher boiling point and stainless steel braided flexible brake lines to replace the 19 year old rubber ones on your car.

A CG-Lock to keep the lap portion of your seat belt snug if you are running stock seats so you can concentrate on driving instead of bracing yourself.

What type of performance are you looking for? Straight-line top-end? Stop-light drags? Or real performance at a road-course racetrack?

Or are you (like me) simply addicted to modifying and think of performance gains in the process?
