2k rpm drop between 2nd to 3rd?!?

So I am new to HPDEs. I have done two in my '03 C4S before deciding to buy a '00 Boxster to designate for the track. I took my Boxster to Thunderhill and found after my first session, the clutch was not grabbing well, almost to the point I thought I had to stop for the day so I could at least drive the car home.
In my next session I drove easy on it and found that when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd the RPMs had to drop 2k rpm before it was matched with 3rd. In my 911 it was only 1k rpm. If I tried to shift as fast as I do in the 911 I would find the clutch would start slipping. Is this simply a clutch that is done, or do you actually have to shift slower in the Boxster waiting for the RPMs to drop a little more? That sounds ridiculous to me, so I am hoping it is just a new clutch needed.

Your clutch is almost gone. The telltale sign of a clutch about to fail is slippage when shifting under high RPM/power.

I've never thought of the rpm drop when shifting from 2nd to 3rd so I checked when driving my 2000S. Shifting at about 6000 into 3rd, there is a 2000 rpm drop. My clutch, thankfully is fine.

There is a really nice graph in the back of the owners manual....
