Thats exactly my thoughts on my 5 speed. And who cares they are SOOOO Cheap (as compared to other Porsche transmissions)
Gear drives on each wheel if the axle angle is too much. It would suck power like Dracula but it would sound MEAN.

First pulls on the road. Cooling system still needs some refinement, but for now, it's enough to make the block.

Decided the radiator mounted on the cage wasn't getting good enough airflow, so it's been relocated. Also tied the OEM radiators into it, so the coolant now goes back through the big one, then all the way forward into the two OEM radiators, then back to the engine. Installed a small booster pump to make sure it flows all the way. Pretty sure it won't overheat as quickly now.

Ever seen 315x17 tires on a 986?
Fat as hell. Some fender flares are in order, I think.
Also, put some mufflers on. The open exhaust was glorious, but the sheer volume was just way too much to be driving around on the road. Two 3" Borla Pro XS solved that issue. Looks a bit goofy, but I love it. Because racecar.
Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention; the new radiator setup works, and she's running nice and cool.

No real updates at the moment, I just love this shot. This is the garage that 100% of the work on this car was done, except the alignment, weighing, and roll cage.
I'm not ashamed of how much of the contents of that garage came from Harbor Freight.
Car going to the dyno Monday morning, I'll be able to give you some real numbers after that. Hopefully getting precision weighed soon after that, so we can see what the final weight is, as well if we've totally boned our weight distribution or not.

The tires are 315/35-17 Toyo Tires Extensa HPII, which is damn near the only street tire I could find that would fit those wheels. At $140 each, not too hard on the wallet, either. You can see they're a bit bulged, but the only 295x17 I could find was the Hoosier A7 and R7 racing slicks. She's not quite ready for that yet.
As far as weight, no. We were too excited to get them on to remember to stop and weigh anything.

Indeed! I most definitely feel like I'm doing some good testing. It seems like the people that may or may not have tested how much power the 5 speed can handle haven't documented it very well, which I intend to recify.
Eventually, I might even make a seperate thread about the 5 speed and associated data for it, seeing as after the extensive research I have done and have turned up an amount of information equivilant to the square root of jack ****************.

I’m not sure I’d put money on it but I think we’ll all be surprised. You’re a good test too, lots of power, lots of tire and you there’s nothing harder on a transmission than an autocross (no rolling start, and all low gear fast shifts). I think if it’ll survive an autocross it’ll survive the track (maybe heat would come into play on the track but a cooler would solve that).

From what I've seen with the local spec boxster crowd. Heat and bad shifting kills the five speed. Some guy tap the case so cool oil from the cooler pours directly onto third and fourth gears because those are the gears that they kill the most. A cooler can't hurt but I know some guys who don't run a cooler at all and their transmission's last for two-three seasons. They swear it's all about correct shifting. I have one friend who got bored racing spec and put a 3.4 in his car. He tracks it constantly and I believe he's still using a 5 speed with no problems. That's around 300hp. The porsche 3.4 has a lot less torque than the V8 you're using though. I think you'll be fine as long as you don't try dropping the clutch in first
