Brilliant Idea! Cappy!

How about a "cap" type spoiler on top of the factory unit?! That way I get the look AND the function!!!

Would the combined aero be funky? How bad could it be? Extra "John Goodman" I want, at high speed.

I would buy the cheapo and shave it and make a cappy.

That would be ideal. I've seen it done before on some other cars. Look at this one. That's what they did. Added a small bridge ontop of the stock one.

I like it!

Now would one of you guys or gals with a broken/cracked aftermarket wing want to sell or donate this to me I would figure a way and document how to fasten it to the stock spoiler. Maybe I can even make a mold of the cappy and dupe it.

Or spend the 300 bucks for the bridge type spoiler and be done with it...decisions, decisions... Out of the box sure sounds appealing.

That's not what I had in mind. That has a bit of a rice-a-roni look to it.

I was thinking of shaving the lower half of the aftermarket wing off and bonding it to the top of the factory spoiler so that I would have the look of the aftermarket wing, but the improved mounting of the factory unit.

Before I do anything dramatic, I'm going to look at the way the wing mounts and see if I can improve/modify the mount so that I don't run into some of the same problems that others have experienced.

I understand exactly what you mean. How hard do you think it would be to attach it?

I'd like to see how that would look, but I'm pretty set on the Gemballa one.

It would actually look just like the aftermarket wing....when closed. Open, it would look more like the Gemballa wing without the hole in the riser.

It would be pretty easy to do. There are panel adhesives out now that are crazy strong (GM attaches their door hinges on their trucks with the stuff). It can be filed, sanded and painted. I'm restoring an old Corvette and the panel adhesive I've used on it would probably work as well.

Hi,

That's gotta be for aesthetics only because the Wing and Spoiler would interfere with one another aerodynamically, maybe not enough to matter, but they would in any case...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

demonz,

If you don't give it a try, let me know and I might. I'm in the DFW area, so shipping wouldn't be necessary.

Cool, we should meet up and I can tell you what part to buy at Home depot that will help improve the mounting of the turbo spoiler. I used 2 rubber washers, one on each side between the contact of the fiberglass and the seating of the holes where the screws go inside. Also, you can have the plastic plugs I used instead of the black rubber ones provided to plug up the gaping holes that you would normally see. These plastic ones fit inside the same holes and are easily paintable to match the spoiler. How come you did not meet us when a group of us got together last month for drinks? It was at Snuffer's.

I went for a while without checking in on the forum and missed the whole get-together, but I'd be up for another meet & greet.

I wondered if you had painted the rubber plugs or if you had found a different plug that paint would adhere to. I wasn't thrilled to find black rubber plugs when I first opened the box.

I'm out of town this weekend, but could meet up next week sometime (that is if demonz hasn't raised his hand that he wants it. He did pipe in first)

I did not realize you made this post. I have my cracked spoiler still if you are interested in cutting and reshapping it to fit the stock one some how. Send me a personal mesage and we can talk about shipping and cost.

I have a wing on my Boxster. I'm pretty sure it is for looks only and doesn't serve any practical purpose, but I'm glad it doesn't interfere with the stock spoiler ( and yes, it bolts to the trunk )

I saw something on another web site that said it was over $3000 new. The guy was selling a used one for $2500 I'm not certain, but am pretty sure it was this spoiler.

The stock spoiler doesn't put anywhere near John Goodman downforce on the rear. I remember reading it's around 30-50 lbs of downforce somewhere in Porsche literature.....and that's at very high speed not 60 mph. Apparently that's enough to break that wimpy aftermarket wing. I'm willing to bet the aftermarket wing generates even less downforce than the stock spoiler. The Gemballa unit looks pretty solid though.

In the manual it says 140KG, so roughly 300 LBs. Not 30-50. Im pretty sure the guys in germany know...
