front end noise

I have a 2000 Boxster with 44K and it has recently started to make a clanking sound in the front suspension on the drivers side. I have taken the vehicle to the Porcshe dealership here in San Diego. After the tech and I went for a test drive he stated that it may be some ball joints which have worn and come loose. Has anyone encountered this sound or problem with their car?

I have a '99 that had a clunking sound a long time ago, but on the right rear. That turned out to be a loose shock tower. I have 72K on mine, haven't had the ball joints replaced yet. Was this at Pioneer in SD?

Have you tried bouncing the car up and down on the left and right front? Does it feel the same on both sides as far as the shocks go? Just an idea to try.

Yes, I did get the car checked out at Pioneer Centres. Roger the service mamager has been really helpful. Anyhow, I went for a ride with one of the techs and he said it was a ball joint issue. I am going to drop the car off 5/10, I guess I will know for sure after that.

I actually did not bounce the car up & down but the tech did and that is when he made the pre-diagnosis in regards to the ball joints.

I can say the same for Hoehn, never again. I have had it with the dealers around here. The only shop that works on mine now are the guys at Black Forest and they do great work. Highly recommended if you live in the San Diego area. Can't say enough good things about them.
