00 Boxster 2.7 Ticking EGR?

I was getting a ticking noise from the passenger side of the engine. It varies with engine RPM. Disconnecting the electrical connector from a sensor below the driver side intake makes the ticking noise almost entirely dissappear. What am I disabling? How do I replace this part? Some have said something about either an EGR or a "Fuel EVAP Valve". Are these the same thing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any pics of this? If you're talking about below the intake vent, it sounds like you're disconnecting the MAF. Is the sensor you disconnect behind the air filter box in the "spider"?

I show two electronic sensors in the area behind the air box. One of the knock sensors and the camshaft position sensor.
