Could be for a sound difference as well. I guess only the Porsche engineers know for sure why they did it.

The stock system is AS GOOD as any aftyermarket system. The stock system is a true "cold air" type system. The airbox is sealed off from the engine bay entirely. Dont fall for any aftermarket systems advertising the "cold air ram intake" crap. Its all crap. ONLY buy an aftermarket system for the sound. It will be a "bit" more noticeable than just desnorking...but here's the catch...desnorking is FREE while these aftermarket crap systems will DRAIN your wallet.

The only this some people are afraid of is a cigarette getting sucked in and lighting the filter element ablaze. If this happens to you then buy a lottery ticket that same day...cause the odds must be unbelievable.

Also...some people rip the foam part of the air filter element off to get a bit more sound.

Also watch out for the aftermarket oiled filters as these *can* ruin a MAF.

Hope this helps.

Every time I let my mates drive the Porsche, I did notice that the engine note sounds better from when I was sitting in the passengers side and it got me thinking why that was the case. It's obvious to me now, the intake is on the Left hand side off the car!

Oh well, I finally found a problem with having a Right Hand Drive Boxster!

Blink, how bout when you are at highway speeds and have the car revved up more than 4K rpms? I would think that it would get louder without the snork. Thinking of doing this just for the heck of it, but if it sounds the same, maybe not.

Hi,

The difference isn't that dramatic, just better. On the 2.5L, I would say that it's most noticeable prior to the Variocam changeover...

Did you disconect and then re-connect the battery? I find this helps the CPU "re-map" the air/fuel ratio. It says to do this with ANY & ALL aftermarket air intake kits. It''s suposed to recalibrate it after your done. I would let it sit disconnected for at least 20min. You will have to reset all of your radio stations of course or put in your stereo code when your done if you want to keep your pre-sets.

Oh I forgot to mention, Reason why mine might be so loud is partly due to having a dry K&N Air Filter. Most people shy away from the K&N but i didnt. too cool for school...
