Coolant cap "00" designation

Saw someone a while back mention the coolant cap with the number 00 should be relaced with one with an 01 desigator. What's the story behind this? Was there a recall and what is the difference between the 00 vs 01 caps. Thanks

not sure exactly what they changed, I think it had to do with how the cap vented airpressure or something......but the 01 cap is what you want. Supposedly it greatly helps the whole "coolant tank breaks and leaks coolant" issue.

I don't think it was a recall, but Porsche started putting the caps on when they serviced the cars. I do not know if they charged for it or not, but the cap itself costs around $15 or so.

it holds better, the ones w 00 on the back let go and then all the coolant will rush out from the side of your car and you will have to flush it....so just spend the 15 and switch it, itll take u 2 minutes and save u hours in frustration

New vs Old

Here's a picture of the two side by side..

old on left, new on right
which you can see, creates a better seal w/ the coolant tank. The old ones were known to break seal under extreme heat/pressure and thus expel all your coolant at the most inopportune time.

Excellent response boys, looks like I'll be getting a replacement cap ASAP... Any recommendations for sourcing this this part?

try your local dealer, a board sponsor or one of the usuals like suncoast or sunset. I'm sure you'll come up w/ a wide range of pricing, just pick the cheapest one delivered. When checking w/ your local dealer, don't forget to 'mention' your PCA parts discount (I get 15% w/ my local dealers).
