Best .52 mod ever better look...
The only reason it cost anything was due to replacing the brass ferrell on the boost line. My cell takes crappy pics when its dying but you get the idea. It took me about 2 hours to fab up the plate, paint it and install the gauge. I was inspired by another board member. I put it in the middle so I can add two other gauges on the sides once I figure out which ones I want to install.

that looks nice, color of the gauge matches nicely, do you have gauge rings on ur cluster?
funny to see something small like that to say this: you just lost 50% of ur storage LOL, well kinda |
Thanks, I dont have the trim rings yet. I couldnt decide wether to get rid of the cd storage or the tiny area under it. Nice thing is the gauge piece can just be moved up if I change my mind about placement, jury is still out on that one.

As a Porsche owner I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for not putting that gauge in a pillar pod.
|
if theres one thing i hate its the pillar pod and blue or any other color glowing gauges on the side, yuk

Hi,
Personally, I don't like the look. Suggest you try the following product... ;) Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Let me guess, you prefer it OG style. http://www.tagyerit.com/antiques/gauge3.jpg
Maybe he should grow out a moustache, put some black steel wheels on, and wear a derby hat whenever he scoots around town. But I dont think he has enough room for his victrola to fit in his car. Oh well... |

No one asked you to guess, just expressing my opinion, maybe different than yours, so what? Can you handle that...?? Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

I suppose Porsche are ricers for installing a water temperature gauge in the factory cluster. :p |
What can I say? Some people use octane boost I use Uncle Bens.

At OhioBoxster,
Hahahahahahahahaha way to have a good sense of humor. |

Not at all. A Boost Gauge is useful, but not when it's mounted on the floor. On the floor, it could even be said to be unsafe because it is a dynamic gauge, you have to be looking at it when the boost is being produced for it to have any value. This takes the Driver's eyes off the Road at a time when the car is under boost and therefore supposedly going fast. The Boost Gauge on my Lotus Esprit is right dead-center on the Instrument Binnacle (see below) as is the OEM Porsche Boost gauge. At this location is it useful and safe. A gauge mounted on the floor is superfluous, there for the Bling. Bling, IMHO, can equate to ricer... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
I took your advice and revamped my dash a little. You were so right that single boost gauge was so bling and outrageous.

Randall,
Good call, I moved the gauge up one level into the cd storage spot and reclaimed my tiny area of storage. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...ws6/boost5.jpg |
hey ohio, I was thinking that my brother's Z3 has three dials in the center like that, the middle dial is a clock....kind of cool.....not sure how it would look in the box but it fits nicely in the Z3
|
An altimeter might go well too.
|
You mean something like this? Is this a factory set up? I know it needs a gauge on each side. I will probably go with oil pressure and possibly temp.

that's the ticket! that is pretty factory....pretty much what his looks like.....I really thought his clock was the middle though....I'll look at it tonight.....I think that pic is of an M so maybe its a little diff

Oh, maybe someone should tell BMW thats ricer style........

Whatever, that aside, I don't care what anyone says, I still think it looks idiotic and Ricer... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

Hi, ???... Little voices in your head today? Just to avoid any further misunderstanding, this isn't related to any other threads whatever. I think it looks idiotic and RICER. Or did you only post this thread for those who are 100% in agreement with you? Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Apology accepted.
Furthermore, if someone didnt agree with placement of the gauge I would think they would suggest an alternate location instead of cheap shots and stupid pictures. Im willing to pay you no attention from this point on if you have nothing constructive to add. The people in my head agree with me 100% |

Some information is more important than others to a driver. Unless you suddenly LOST boost, it may not be something you need to always look at. Then again, on some cars (like a 930 or a WRX) you have (can have) a boost guage that is easily seen while driving without having to move your head/arms to see it. |
Racer d,
Good points, I use the boost gauge more for vacuum at idle than pressure while driving it keeps me informed about the status of the SC duct work. |

Sorry, this should have read "Just to avoid any further misunderstanding on your part, this isn't related to any other threads whatever..." No apology inferred or proffered... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Jim,
Please stop apologizing, I get it your sorry. |
I'm not sure where a better place for it would be. The gauge I want front and center on my instrument cluster is the tach. Fortunately it's that way from the factory. When I had my RX-7, I mounted the boost gauge to the dashboard, on the right side of the instrument binnacle - but there is no room for a gauge there in a Boxster.
Not sure why Jim is being so insulting - bad day? There are things people on this board have done to their cars that I would consider to be pretty ricey but ... to each their own. If having the gauge there suits your needs, more power to you. You can always move it later! |
We need a HUD option.
|
Hud
Toatally agree on a Heads Up Display projected on the lower windshield. A digital speedo and digital tach. Of course this all goes down the tubes when you are dialing your cellphone while setting up for a corner. <G>

although i dont know the exact size of the gauge, how about placing it here if it will phisically fit? or is there somethign in there behind?
http://i16.tinypic.com/48lss3p.jpg |
Nope, imagine the 996 cluster with 5 gauges, and cover up the side 2. Thats what we have. Ive taken apart everything for those LEDs so I know theres no room. Modern cars are too modular and fancy to modify easily. Our gauges are split level and extremely tight in there so we cant do anything. The BEST option is to put the gauges in the middle dash where the climate control is (for me). Its where the cup holders go. You could move your gauge(s) there easy enough but youd have to buy something to relocate the climate control. I think a trim ring or a mounting something.
|
looked like a good location at least
|
If you guys look in the performance talk section and go into my supercharger install thread you will see a pic dated 08-24-2006. It shows where I wanted to install the gauge and gave reasons why I didnt. So, faced with limited options I placed it below the radio. This is not an unusual place to add extra gauges, do a search. Many people have added oil pressure and etc in this location. I like it and it will do just fine. I do appreciate the positive input.

Anyway, I can see Jim's point about it being in a less than optimal location. However I debate as to whether or not it's considered "rice." I guess I just need to hear Jim's definition of rice. At any rate, when ever I feel grumpy, tense, or down, I listen to this song. I don't feel like dancin' <-- download me! Some one explain how you can listen to this and then NOT be in a cheerful mood! Let me know what y'all think! |
i think that useless parts on a car are rice, but in this case u def. need a boost gauge, and w limited space it looks great.
good job man |
