Engine mount support stop?

Hi. I have another question regarding my Boxster S 2000 model.

I changed the front motor mount during winter, as it was completely worn out. As i took out the old one, and unpacked the new one, I saw that the new one did not come with the so called "engine mount support stop", part number 986.375.255.01 (se picture). These are thin soft plastic parts that sits on the side of the actual rubber bushing in the mount.

The old ones where brittle and worn, but as I did not have new ones and the engine was now supported by the jack, i glued the old support stops together and mounted with the new mount. Unfortunately, just after driving the car in and out of the garage, some pieces had already fallen off.

I have seen a couple of DIY videos on the engine mount on youtube, and have seen that some just disregard thes support stops and mount without them. I would consider the old ones i mounted as failed now.

Question is, what do these pieces actually do? Are they 100% necessary? Do they affect the longevity of the motor mount?

One time I installed the mount without the same 'stops' you are talking about and it got metal to metal vibrations into the chassis, you need to install them. Once I was in your shoes, and I made a (very rough..) couple of gaskets cutting off with a hand blade a couple of pieces of dense rubber (can't remember where I cut the rubber came from), but it worked.

The first front engine mount I changed didn't have have these stops so I made my own like this.

Perhaps a shoe repair shop would have a thinner but robust material that could be used.

In your update, you said you DIY mount stops might have contributed to vibrations due to the thickness.

Your posts list your car as: 2000 base.
You list part # to be: 9A137525701 - $31.89 each On FCP Euro site, however, that part number shows compatibility with only 2005+ boxster
The part number that come up for my car (2001 986S) is 98637525501 which is a lot thinner, and cost $14.19 ea.
Is there a reason why you did the comparison with the newer part number?

I intend to just buy them, so trying to find out if I should go with the newer design or the correct older design.

Too long ago to remember... likely there was confusion between the parts for the original 986 mount and the replacement 987 mount.

I see what you are saying. The new motor mount insert design is actually the updated 987 design, and so it should be used with the new mount stop: 9A13752570

Ok, i think I will order them as they are 15 english pounds from the UK, and have the workshop install then as they are pulling out both engine and trans in april for IMS/clutch and variocam pads.

Its only a 2hr drive down to the workshop, guess that will be ok
