speedometer/odometer intermittent

Last night on an evening ride, my speedometer and odometer started working intermittent, could it be a loose wire? or the speedometer pickup gone bad.

This link shows the process for removing the gauge cluster. I recommend that you remove the cluster and check to be sure that all of the connectors are seated properly. If I recall correctly, I've seen posts that suggest the connectors and associated wiring can fail with age.
