Need Imoblizer Advice

I just bought a 2002 Boxster at an auction that has a missing immobilizer (control unit). I've called several dealers and this unit has jumped in priced dramatically this past year to $1,700 plus $700 core (which I don't have since it's missing). So, my question is... if purchase a salvage package... immobilizer, ECU, ignition unit, door lock chamber, and keys... all matching - will this work? I'm buying this from eBay and was told that it should be plug and play. Does that sound right??

Yes, with a few caveats:
  • It must be from a similar model car. The model years break down to:
    1997 - 1999 Cable throttle.
    2000 - 2002 Electronic throttle.
2003 - 2004 Electronic throttle with 'Variocam plus' 3 chain engines. More use of CAN bus.
  • It will function, but will not be correctly programmed to the specific VIN and options of the car. May cause problems for future dealership type maintenance on the car.
  • The minimum you need to get the car running is a matching DME, Central Locking Module (immobilizer box under the seat), and Transponder from the key fob. The other parts are optional.

I agree with everything 78F350 said.

Problem i see is that you often get crap on Evilbay. Don't ask me why i know. I run a business that is specialized especially in Porsche electronics. https://sportwagendoktor.de

So make shure that you get ecus and key fobs that work. Also make shure they are especially for your car. Means it must be from a car with exaclty the same engine and the model year. Everything else will get you in trouble. And make shure you can return everything if it doesn't work.

The other route will be a used good M535 and new keyfobs that are programmed to the car. I offer these things, but i'm located in Germany, so this will not make sense for you.
