Radio problem

After following a YouTube video on how to replace the steering column switch (for wipers, indicators and OBC) I am left with a radio that turns on but doesn't show any display. Need this to enter the code, which I have.

Got to say the video for the switch replacement was excellent and the good was completed with no dramas. The instruction was to turn on the ignition and disconnect the negative side of the battery so the airbag warning would not come on after installation.

This is fine, no warning light but also no display on the radio. The display lights up very dimly when on and if I press and hold the TP button for 10 seconds I get a loud beep but nothing else.

If I remove the head to clean the contacts I get several warning beeps (alarm?) but nothing else.

My car is a Boxster 986 3.3L S and the radio is the Porsche CDR 220.

Any suggestions would be very welcome. I have checked all fuses, all OK and the unit was working perfectly before I did the switch replacement.
