Center Wind Deflector

I want to add the wind deflector to my 986. I've seen used ones for $100ish or I can buy a whole new "kit" for $700ish (which I wouldn't do). The used ones I'm looking at have the rubber seal around the edge and appear to have some sort of clips at the top corners. Is that all I need to install one or are there other clips, pieces, etc., that I'd have to source?

Thanks,
E-

If you have never had one, you need the clips that go on the roll-bar.

I found a used wind deflector and my car had the 2 clips on the upper insides of the roll hoops, but it doesn't have a clip in the bottom/middle, either on the deflector or the car. There is a little ridge/indentation on the car, that the deflector seems to sit in. It clips in and seems secure. Is it safe to drive like this or is something missing?

Ridge/indentation

Pelican Parts shows 3 clips?

After taking mine off for whatever... when reinstalling I slip it into that lower part then clicking into place the two top tabs. When it appears secure I give each top edge a pull towards the rear of the car to ensure it's snug.

Yours looks good. Go drive.

Thanks! It seemed fine, I just didn't know why the Pelican kit has 3 clips.

You absolutely need the center "clip" (lip).

Buy and install it, or buy it and another wind deflector later when you lose this one on the highway.

Was the screen an option? Were 986s sold with zero screen hardware on the rollbar?

Thanks, PW.

For the plexiglass center windscreen, it has the 2 clips at the top, just not the one at the bottom/center. There is nothing inside the roll hoops for the "screens". Not sure if there should be something there or not.

MIne is over in storage at the moment (no room at the inn, er, garage for everything) but I don't remember anything on the bottom to secure the unit.
And the roll bar windscreens just loosely snap in from the back.

For reasonable prices and a huge selection of parts like this, eBay can't be beat.

Yes. My 2004 Base did not have any hardware. I bought the entire kit which included the three clips. My 2003 S had everything.

What confused me, is mine has the 2 clips at the top, but nothing at the bottom. I ordered a new set with all 3 and will install the bottom one.

About 22 years ago, I was lucky to find and buy a Porsche Boxster clear center wind deflector for my 98 Boxster. I was the second owner and the original owner didn't have one when I bought his then 3 year old car.

Back then they could be had, all day long on eBay, for what at that time was a lot of money (about $50).......Times certainly have changed with prices now topping several hundred dollars!!

Now I'm trying to figure out ways to "lock-it down" because it's obviously such an easy target for thieves who know what they could cash it in for.

It should be pretty safe if you park with the roof up

Regards from Perth

Let me be clear. I buy most of my parts at Pelican, Suncoast, or Amazon. But if you're looking for something uncommon, such as a replacement belly pan (a.k.a. splash shield), headlight, taillight, wind deflector, etc., eBay is the place to go. Unless you're willing to part with an arm and a leg.

I have been curious, how does the shield come out? Mine seems very snug and so do the latches. I don't want to break anything.

Best advice to to read your Owner's Manual.....it describes the "in's and out's of the wind deflector on your year.
