Unhappy "03 Boxster smelly & smokey

My '03 Boxster with 80,000 miles has been sending out a lot of smelly smoke when it's started. Does this indicate a problem, besides polluting the air?

Search "Bad AOS" and follow troubleshooting steps you find. It can be anything from your oil level is too high to you're engine is fading. It will take a little work to determine the true cause.

Make sure your oil is not overfilled as well. While replacing the AOS did solve this for me, I remember reading that due to the flat engine overfilling can put you in a situation were the oil sits against the rings and seeps through. The dash oil level indicator has a full line that is below the final bar. Make sure you are not above that fill line.

Something to check that is an easy fix.

What color is the smoke? Big puffy white smoke, probably AOS. Blue smoke, probably bad news.
