Upper dome light and trim swap

Just pulled my 1997 Boxster into the garage for upgrades and maintenance. So far I have put about 10,000 miles on her after fixing a variocam and timing issue. She scoots for a 2.5L.

To my question, I am looking at swapping out the upper dome light and trim cover for one from a 911 996. I have seen talk about the dome light with the small LED that shines down on the console that is basically identical, but none about the wider one with map lights. Has anyone tried this mod with success?

Pretty sure, when it comes to the dome light housing, 986 and 996 are incompatible due to the simple fact, that a 996 (including cabriolet) has a different roof (locking) set-up.

Thanks Bran ... I only found one question similar to mine and nothing further about it. For a vehicle that has been around this long, I should have found something related to the question. Just finished looking at your ride and you have definitely personalized it ... it looks great. Even better that you are the original owner. Mine had been sitting in the desert of Arizona with parts robbed when I bought it as a project vehicle. I will definitely look at your list of mods to see if they will be a part of my plan. I am getting ready to pull the dash and AC box out because of the deteriorated foam blowing all over the interior. Thanks again for the feedback.
