Coolant Hose replacement technique questions

Hello All
I have some confusion on replacing a coolant hose in the 2001 Boxster S that I own.

I have a hose crack causing a leak in one of the coolant hoses near the rear of the car, so I purchased an OEM replacement hose for it. This is a 3-way hose with a T-connector.


1) Can I replace the hose without draining most of the coolant ?

2) How do I do that ? Is there a specific clamping tool I need to buy to clamp the ends of the hose so that I can swap the hose out ? I did read the 101 Projects book and the tech article in Pelican parts website but I am not confident I understood the procedure correctly.

3) if the coolant drains out while replacing the hose, can I reuse it ? Porsche coolant is quite expensive if I have to replace all of it.

Any other tricks and tips that you may have ?

Two questions:
--how old is your coolant? Unless you have a record of a recent change, I would just change it. And there are options to the Porsche coolant with the same formulation. I thought they were explained in "101"
--if you have one hose that's bad, don't you think the others aren't far behind?

Thanks. I have owned the car for two years and have not changed the coolant. I have no prior history of the car since I purchased it at Copart.
I don’t know if I want to change all the hoses but I’ll see which other ones are bad.

My advice would be to change all of the hoses (assuming if one has aged and leaked the others may be close behind). I'd also drain and change all the coolant and make sure to go through the air "purging" process in the coolant system. Then you'll be good to go for many more years.

(btw, spend the money to get the good hoses and clamps, don't "cheap-out" on the parts)
