Any CO/WY owners

Going to be driving out to Denver in August for work and plan on making it an extended weekend. Plan is to hit Rushmore, Crazy Horse & Deadwood....possibly Devil's tower. Anything else to do while out that way? Will be taking in a Rockies game on the Friday and then head north after.

Looking for other ideas and feedback. Not sure yet which Porsche we will take, most likely the 03 or the 996.

If you are here any longer, head over across US14 and over to Cody, then up to Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway. You'll not find better roads for a Porsche anywhere!

The bad part is, wife gets car sick. If it where me I would just drive all the way up to Yellowstone but already looking at 2400 miles over 3 days.

Think I have settled on where to stay, now I'm trying to find someone around the area that has recommendations for some star gazing & astro photography. We dont get clear skies in MO like you guys do up north.

The Great Sand Dunes is apparently listed at the 8th best national park to start gaze, but that is way far south west. I googled up Dark Sky Havens in Colorado and found this article. It's a little old and a couple of more places have been added.
https://denver.cbslocal.com/2020/10/07/colorado-international-dark-sky-locations-places-to-visit/
In the end, get away from the I-25 corridor to someplace in the mountains or the plains and the star gazing is pretty spectacular.

I second this. My wife and I did this once, came through chief Joseph at day break - life changing! And that was in a RAV4 lol

Leave her with some money at the Deadwood casinos and take a ride!

Deadwood is on the list of places to go as a possibility. Trying to fit so much into a 2 day weekend and still leave time for a 13hour drive home is getting tight.

It's hard to beat Squaw Pass Road between Evergreen and Idaho Springs. Beautiful drive but no too twisty. Take in a coffee and a very easy hike at the Echo Lake lodge. Sunset and stars are amazing!

I live in Evergreen. Feel free to DM me.

Figured I would update this thread.

Trip out west was an overall good trip. approx 2700 miles and way too many fill ups.

Averaged 28mpg
Lost my rear spoiler somewhere in KS
Driver door lock/micro switch decided to stop working in Denver
Made it up Mt. Evans which is the tallest road in NA. 14k feet. Not for the feint of heart either. Forgot to setup my GoPro. Vertigo started to kick in up at the top so I didn't get out to get any great photos. Will post a picture of what was at the base though later.
While leaving Mt. Rushmore it decided it wanted to start to misfire on me. Did what I could while in a hotel parking lot but decided to just take a chance and get it home. It was Sunday so nothing was going to be open anyway. Made it home and suspect it's time for new plugs & coils since I haven't done them on this car yet.
Lowest temp was 42 which made having heated seats all the better.
90% of the trip was driven with the top down and either heat or AC on. Was a blast

Made it to Devils Peak & Mt. Rushmore, but had to cancel going to Badlands due to the car. Trip already being planned to head back out.

Best roads were in WY. They were butter smooth.
Worst roads....CO. 1st 100 miles on Hwy 70 from the KS boarder was like driving on cobblestones. Not a pleasant ride.

Ride was nice & comfy the whole time (other then misfires)

Top speed was 110 while in KS when a couple state troopers wanted to play.

I love driving in this area of the country. Did you pick up any prairie dogs at Devil's Tower?

The last time I was up mt Evans I drove my kia Sorrento (aka the fun-vee, ahh the good ol days) and it was so windy that when my brother in law opened his door the wind caught it and smashed it back in his face lol.

Sounds like a fantastic trip man, I'm glad to hear that all went well

What do you think? Think this will cause any misfires?

This is one of the better looking ones. Time for doing all the plugs in coils. I suspect these are original coils cause they don't have the updated bolts. At 120k miles uts time.

That must be the 03 - you replaced the plugs and coils before we went down that crazy rabbit hole with the other one??

Yup & Yup. From the 03.

I can't really complain about this car. Haven't done anything with it besides new brakes and fuel pump.

Was fun hooking up the Durametric and watching the live misfires climbing faster then the seconds on a cloth to over 600 on just 1 cylinder.

New plugs & coils ordered but put a spare coil on cyl 1 & 2 which were the most consistent. At least if I need to drive to the office I can or let my son borrow it next week while we are traveling again.

What is more interesting, the car drive 13 hours non stop home with the misfires like it was. Didn't have much of choice. If we stayed in SD no one would have been able to get new coils for a day or two which means we would have been there for at least 3 days since it started on a Saturday late afternoon.
