Boat plug worked for me.
Just make sure that it's dry and get's all the way in before you start expanding it.

Also. When re-installing the tubes, I found that as long as I made sure that the 0 rings were wetted in oil and the seat was clean they slipped in just fine.
But on the first tube I installed I didn't clean it first and it refused to seat without using excessive force.
After I wiped down the seat it snapped right in with a push of the thumb.

A bent coat hanger works just fine for me. YMMV.

The absolute best is the Rauch & Spiegel M96-P100 “Flat-Rater” Spark Plug Tube Puller Tool, which works perfectly and is anything but cheap:

make your own!

All you need is a bolt that's longer than the tube with a washer secured at both ends. Insert into the tube so that one washer hooks the bottom of the tube and pry out. Works well.

Anyone who looks at my tools always asks what the tool is for like A986S'. Use the same thing and it always works great. Tried the boat plug but had a couple tubes crack when trying that but it does work if you are careful.

Same thing I use.
Most times the simplest solution is the best solution.;)

I use Lock Ring Pliers, something similar to this:
https://www.amazon.com/SPEEDWOX-Retaining-Installing-Automobile-Transmission/dp/B07QYR719L/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Lock+Ring+Pliers&qid= 1622155052&sr=8-2

They work great... Squeeze and pull. Do not insert the tool too far, you want to catch just the outside end of the tube.

I always replace my tubes if I am pulling them. If you do not plan to replace the tubes make sure you have spare tubes in-case you get too aggressive squeezing the pliers (could crack the tube).

3/4 pipe and cap works too. I just made a quick video for you because I did this job last weekend and had prior to doing so had read multiple ways to remove them:
