Diagnostic Tools

Hey gang,

I know this has been batted around 1,000 times, but I'm having difficulty trying to find what I'm looking for. I don't need a $500 diagnostic tool, but would like to have something to view codes if I ever get one, clear codes, and also, test fan operation and other rudimentary tasks.

What is the least expensive option?

Thanks!

$50 for cheap BT & torque - Basic info. Read codes only

Durametric if you want anything more

Thanks, so the Durametric is the only option to test fan operation?

Under $500? yes

Not sure why testing the fan is something you want to be able to do all the time though. Seems like that is just a specific test case for an issue. there are ways to test the fans without any diag tools hooked up to the car.

Every sensor, switch, wiring connection, fan, whatever on a car can be tested with a simple Digital Multi Meter. If it operates via an electric signal it can be test with a DMM.
Now sometimes getting to what you want to test can be a PITA.

I use the fixd, plugs into the OBD port and you can do everything on your phone as far as reading and resetting codes.
