OE airbox

Hey guys,

Was doing general maintenance and realized that whoever had this car before replaced the OE airbox with an ebay cone filter and box.

I would like to put things back to, as close as stock as possible, so I was looking around for a used airbox and snorkel.

Looks like there's several different version of it though.

So my question is.
Any idea which one to get for a 2000 S manual ?

Thank you

Have you considered an airbox from a 2000 S? That's about as close to stock as you're going to get. Matter of fact, that would be stock.

Garage
If you're going to do it, get a 987 for better breathing and bigger filter.

According to PET there are 2. 1 for up to models up to 97 and 1 for any model after 98. There are no S specific ones according to PET. 996.110.121.06

@Starter986:
So that's the problem. Try as I might I haven't been able to nail down exactly which one that is.
I know I've seen both BX07 and BX05 and I'm pretty sure that I've also seen a BX03.
All covering 97-04 Boxsters and in a mix of base and S.
I'm just not sure which one is the "correct" one or if some are updated versions of the essentially same part.

@Newsguy:
That was my original plan.
But then I started reading about the lack of space for routing the intake pipe to the plenum and decided that that was way too much hassle for right now.
Unless of course I'm misunderstanding something and it's a drop in replacement as long as you leave the plenum alone ?

Really just trying to get decent filtration on this car without too much effort.
And yes. I did consider simply replacing the cone with another cone, but since I have no clue what's in it it would be hard to find a part that I know will fit.

Download the PET from Porsche. Page 42.

Actually, looking it again. they are all the same. Just different revisions for the airbox. It does call for additional parts depending on the engine, but the airbox itself is the same.

@Stl-986:

Thank you.
Found and ordered.

I think you just changed my life with the parts diagram
Of course that doesn't mean the unending stream of dumb questions will subside.
But at least it won't hurt....

That's ok. We will continue to point out the dumb questions with dumb answers.

There are no dumb questions. If you're in a pinch and need an answer "now", you could use the search feature. You'll find that certain questions already have been asked and addressed. When I started using the search function I was finding tips, tricks, and answers to questions never had I even considered. That has helped when wrenching.

Welcome!

Hey zordrack, I've got one that I pulled out my my 00 just a few months ago that I will sell ya. Looks like you already ordered a new one but if it doesn't work let me know.

Oh, btw, it looks like no one else has warned you about this so I will go ahead and do so. It's not easy to remove or replace the factory airbox without either removing the fuel rail or dropping the motor a bit. Dropping the motor is easier in my opinion, it only takes a few minutes if you know what to do. With that being said, replacing the oem box is not "drop in".
