You need to know the offsets. Wheel width (7.5 and 9) are fine.
Look for offsets of ~50-55 mm.
Lower than 50ish may have the wheels sitting too far out.
Higher than 55ish may require spacers.

Is the offset independent of Wheel width?

These wheels are 7.5 front and 9 rear but offset is not 50/55

Offset is completely independent of width. You'll find that factory 17" and 18" 986 Boxster wheels sit in the 48-55 mm range.
