Remember your first?

This is a story about my very first Porsche: a Boxster S. I bought it in California with the idea to have a road trip from San Francisco to Montreal in Canada! Shot much of it with my old iPhone so it's vintage stock. Took the long way, old route 66, Texas, Okie, up through the Blue Ridge mountains, imported the car and cruised on home!

23 years old in 1981 with my first Porsche, a 1967 911. It was already rusting and ran on five cylinders. But is was a PORSCHE 911! I sold off my '70 Karmann Ghia for part of the purchase price.

A few years later I graduated college and went off to Air Force pilot training. Got rid of the 911 for a '79 924. (I know, I know...) But I needed something reliable and the 924 ran on all (4) cylinders. And the A/C (kind of) worked.

I've had at least one, and usually several Porsches ever since.

What a great road trip it must have been! I'm dreaming of doing one something like that. Thanks for sharing, James!

Not as long ago... 2006 I bought a 1980 Suzuki GS 850 off Ebay site unseen in Minnesota**. I took a greyhound from Springfield, MO to get it and rode it home to Charleston, SC. Doesn't seem like much, but it was in April. April in SC means wear a jacket you'll be fine. April in Minnesota means there is still snow around. Being a bit younger and pourer I didn't wanna spring for a hotel; so I spent a night or two hugging the headers trying to keep warm till I hit the mason dixon.

I still remember hitting the border in SC on I 20. No tags so I kept it under 80 the whole time, but when I hit SC I slammed the throttle back. There was this jerk behind me in the left lane just ridding my 6. I musta been doing 130mph or more. When I finally got an opening to get right and let him pass the Sheriff that was keeping up mouthed the words to me "SLOW DOWN". LOL

**I was attending college in Missouri so it didn't seem like that far away... it was.

I had to repost this video to YouTube. I got tagged with a copyright claim for that country song that was playing on my car radio when I passed the twin arrows! Man, those bots have sharp antennae! :troll:
