Painting Hardtop

99 Boxster. Well I decided to paint my Guards Red hardtop to match my Ocean Blue Boxster. Wanted to do something other than Ocean Blue. I saw some pix of some other Boxsters that had their hardtops painted with a black matte finish. Looked pretty cool....almost like the soft top was up. I can paint it flat black or ocean blue and clear it with a matte clear. Not too sure what way to go. Black Matte or matching Ocean Blue w/ matte finish. What do you all think?? V

I say paint it with Plastidip. See if you like the color. Peel it off if not.

Good luck.

Personally, I have never liked mismatched hardtop colors, the lines of the hardtop when installed make it look more mismatched than a style choice to have two different colors. But that is just my opinion, and if you like the way it looks, it's your car and you should do what you like.

If you want a non-OEM color, like matte black I would look into a wrap, because painting a hardtop a non-OEM color will impact its value. Same with a matte clear on Ocean Blue. You also need to look into the weather resistance of matte paint, because I assume you are installing a hardtop for weather resistance, I know when matte paint was new there were some durability concerns.

Never liked the matte finish. I don't get it, cars have always been all about the shine. It looks like it was painted with just primer which people used to do when they had no money for paint.
