I know a good number of members of this forum drive their Boxsters year round regardless of the weather.

I was wonder how you keep your cars clean ( salt / snow ) in the winter months ?

I dont really drive my Porsches anymore in the bad winter weather but back when I did I would hit a "Do it yourself" car wash place and hose the underside down and keep the car clean, that along with a trusted hand wash shop.

I drive mine in the winter and have no good answer. Last year my car just got really gross.

I am curious if anyone else has a good answer for this.

I have an answer but I don't know how helpful it will be.

When I built my garage addition, I put in a floor drain, hot and cold water, HVAC and cable TV.

Now I can wash my car in a snowstorm at 10:00 at night in climate controlled comfort, while watching The Ultimate Fighter.

Grizz, you're killing me. As if the weather in your neck of the woods needs a climate controlled enviroment in the garage.
Now if I could only have that in my neck of the woods. . . .

Yeah there is a solution. Get a 5 gallon buckett from home depot or one of those that comes with a lid. Fill it with warm water and a couple of ounces of a rinseless wash solution like QEW (quicke and easy wash) or Optimum No Rinse. Put the bucket with lid in the front trunk with a few brushes and a half dozen micro fiber towels.
Drive your car to an undeground parking garage if you don't have garage in your home. Douse the car in the solution by holding the sponge over each panel. Let it soak for a few mintues. Then take the MF towels folded into quarters and dunk the towels in the buckett. With one long pass all the crap will slide off the car without scratching or swirling. FLip the towel with each pass. Save the rocker panels, and under the bumpers, and the wheel arches for last and use your older beat up towels. Reuse the left over water in your bucket to clean your wheels with the wheel face brush. Spray the car with a cleaning quick detailer before drying with a waffle weave towel. Clean car and you saved yourself $8 at the car wash and no swirls from the dirty wash mitts and drying towels they use.

Mobile detailers swear by this stuff when they make house calls at customers homes or their place of work where a hose is not available.

My car will stay very clean this winter (its first) in Chicago. It will be sleeping in the garage from about October 28 till early March!

I have not damaged any paint to date and I've quarter washed everything I have owned.

I am going to be driving to Grizzly's house this winter. It should be a good trip - I can clean the 987 while Grizz modifies the trigger pull on my CAR15...

My hero!

I will be driving mine all Winter. It's all I will have to drive. I'll do what I've done every year before....(go to Griz's!)....wash it outside when conditions warrant. When the soap freezes on the car....stop washing!

As a last resort, I have used low pressure washers. I figured it was better than having the snot on the car! THese days they use a God awful Calcium or Manganese Chlorides on the roads that may not be as corrosive as Sodium Chloride but the overall appearance is very displeasing!

I also wax the heck out of the vehicle this month (Indian Summer time in Pac Northwest) as a last ditch effort to protect it. I also went the extra mile and bought a hard top, it has got to help!

I keep my car overnight inside my garage. At work its parked outside. As far as for the cleanliness of the car is a visit to the car wash near me. Once the temps go under 45 it really gets very cold to wash the car myself.

I install my hardtop and just take it to our local automatic no touch car wash. I've been doing this since 1974 with no damage to my cars.

You're always welcome. One of my neighbors is building a blown 514 '67 Mercury Comet and he's already traded me some warm workspace for the front suspension pan work I need on my 912.

Unfortunately Doc, I have no clue how to work on a weapon...but I know some guys who do.
