Hi,

Here is what the letter from Porsche stated:

"Dear Porsche Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resources Board and Environment Canada.

Porsche AG has determined that a defect that relates to motor vehicle emissions exists in certain model year 1998 to 2002 Porsche Boxster vehicles. Porsche AG is voluntarily recalling these vehicles (Emission Recall A209). The fuel cap may leak fuel vapors, which will result in deterioration of the vehicle emissions and illuminate the check engine lamp. To correct this, we will, at no cost to you, replace the existing gas cap with one of the improved sealing capability. This service will have no effect on your vehicle's performance except reduction of air pollutants. If you do not have this recall performed:
Your vehicle may not pass emissions or smog tests that may be required in your area. The California Department of Motor Vehicles may not renew you (sic) vehicle registration."

Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

My 1997 still has the original cap, as it was not subject to the recall.

The cap with slots.
