Your favorite aftermarket exhaust: High-end to Low-end
I am certain majority of the members here love a nice exhaust note. With that thought in mind, I am curious to hear of your favorite aftermarket exhaust.
Please do include all high to low-end :). A sound clip if available would be a fantastic addition as well. |

On the 986 I run catless mid pipe with the FVD Brombacher Sound Version muffler.
|
+1
Mid pipes with no cats and the FVD Brombacher “Sound Version” muffler.
Sweet, sweet music. |
I'm running cheap ebay headers, mid pipes w/ 200 cell cats, and a cheap ebay muffler.
Shaved a ton of weight, sounds great at any rpm, and drones like a sunuvabug around 4k rpm. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |

It would be great if we had recordings done with a set method so we could compare same conditions for same. |
I’m running 200cell midpipes with FVD Brombacher Sound Version. Sounds amazing and no drone.

Square-Root,..what does a 200 cell refer to ?? Thanks Frank

I would guess having some device like a go-pro mounted to the car would be good? don't own one, but videos I've heard with them mounted sound pretty good. I'll play around with some sound clips on mine. Fabspeed 200cell headers, fabspeed testpipes, Billy&Boat muffler |
I run this;
https://x-ph.com/fabspeed-porsche-986-boxster-supercup-exhaust-system/ Of course, I adapted my LQ9 6.0 LS to it. Sounds fabulous! Especially with ear plugs, but what the hey. And no, I can't get a good audio track of what it sounds like. I either get lots of wind noise followed by banging and scraping sounds when my phone falls off, or it rings and I have to pull over to remove the duct taped phone from the bumper and answer it. Lol! Seriously, if you want a complete FabSpeed set up including including headers back to the center exit point I'd make them a good deal. All stainless so no rot and nothing has been cut. It will need new gaskets regardless. I imagine it would be pretty loud but I bought the car with a bad motor so not 100%v sure on that. |
I agree sound clips can only give you a general impression. I took a sound level measurement at one time, posted in a thread around somewhere.
My FVD sound version was louder no drone but not too loud. My indy did not think it was loud enough, all pretty subjective. Would like some 200 cell cats on it though, help it breath a little better. |
FVD Brombacher Sound Version with Fabspeed mid pipes. IMO sounds fantastic, no drone. No sound clips but there are some on YouTube.

That sounds great! And I love the lift off throttle burble!
|
I got ebay headers, 200 cel cats and the FVD Sound version. I love the sound and I´m pretty sure I have found a few more ponies..
However I would say that it drones a bit around 3000rpm.. Still worth it. I just wonder how people with this FVD-system and just the midpipe can say there is no drone... Can it be more drone with 200 cel cats then with catless mid-pipes? Or is it my headers? Any theories? |
Jic Magic exhaust and secondary cat bypass. No drone, sounds great.
|
I plan to replicate this guy's custom exhaust.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zBghuXxT1M This is the best sounding one I've heard so far at a good cost. |
