Cam deviation numbers

Hi all, my 04 S has 84000 miles I am wondering when I plug durametric into the car to read cam deviation, should it be done when engine is running or just at ON position?

At engine Warmed up but not running I have a reading of camshaft position 1 at 1.09 and camshaft position 2 at 0.72, am I within spec or out? What range is considered acceptable? Your feedback is much appreciated.

Spec is +/- 9 so you are in spec. I believe you should take with the car running warmed up

Thats a great number, but is supposed to be taken at full operating temp, like right after a 30 minute drive, not warming up in the driveway.

The reading was taken when the engine was fully warmed up and has been driven for at least 30 minutes but should I have taken the reading when the engine is idling or just turned ON ?

Blue62 is right +/-6 is the spec. Sorry about the misinformation. IIRC, codes start getting thrown about +/-9.

Engine completely warmed up, engine running at idle. Reading should be stable within 6 degrees plus or minus.

So if you throw codes at -9 wouldnt that be a early warning for the IMS issue.??

Not really. Very worn chain rails (guides) will cause this reading.
