I was offered a hood that is supposed to be a 996 cup in aluminium, then I was told that ALL 996/986 hoods are in aluminium, is this correct... ??

There you go.. So the standard hood is steel?

Anyone heard of Cup-hoods in aluminium, do they even exist?

If you bought a Miata, then your front hood would be aluminum. But our crappy Porsches are steel. That is just so pedestrian!

Now - if you have a first generation factory aerokit, your rear deck lid is fiberglass.

Miata need it for weight distribution as their engine is in a particularly pedestrian location.

i'd read rumours that the gt2 got an alu hood, but in checking the pet the gt2 has the same part # as a standard 911. perhaps there is a porsche motorsports part #, but i think the racing guys use fiberglass mostly. 987 spyder and cayman r got alu hood and doors, but no interchange w the 986 unfortunately.
