How Long Should Driveshaft Last?

I have a 2001 Boxster S. I replaced both axles about 3 years and 30,000 miles ago. Now I have (WAWAWA) noise coming from the rear and I am told my right axle needs to be replaced. Is this normal to have to replace axles? I don't drive the car that hard. Once in a while I launch it and spin the wheels but not intentionally or often.

Did a mechanic tell you that? Who made the ones you put in? If it was not a reputable brand, they could go in 30K miles, I guess. Or one of the boots somehow got torn and all the grease flung out of it. However, the noise you're describing sounds more like a wheel bearing than an axle. Axles usually make a clicking noise when they go bad.

Get a second opinion from another shop.
