GM introduces the Boxster for 2020

Mid-engine corvette for 2020. I know much talk has been around this happening. The story I read really caught my attention when it mentioned 2 trunks, front and back

				Vette

I watched the reveal last night; somewhat overdone. You really want to like it, since it's from our country, but knowing GM, I wouldn't want to have one of the first year units!
Also, I hate the rear end. It's ugly on a Camaro, and it's still ugly here.
But they have advanced to the mid-engine level!

I actually think it looks nice. I'm no Corvette fan, but it looks sharp to me. Maybe they could have done something better for the rear end, but overall I like it.

I kinda like it. And I'm not a Corvette fan.
It's sort of "super-carish" in a good way.

I have a mixed opinion, I like the look in general but now it looks too much like McLaren than a Corvette. My wife doesn’t like it, be waiting on some first drive impressions.

Having owned 3 corvettes and raced a Z06 until 2013, this model C8 has been much anticipated.
My 2000 S is fun to drive around town and out in the country where I live, and I like really Porsche's, but a Boxster isn't in the same class as a modern Corvette in terms of performance.

yeah, if Chevy could just figure-out how to fix the interior of the 'vette, so it doesn't feel like I'm in a pickup truck.....
they'll never truly be a world-class car until they get that sorted-out.

Thats called a Porsche 911 and you will spend about 160k or so.
lol
The Corvette has to cut some corners somewhere to give you the performance of cars costing double.
For its price point Im generally fine with its interiors, last few gens anyway.
Point taken though, its a common gripe.

Agreed. When it comes to dollars per MPH, you can't beat the Corvette. When you have that much performance at that low a price, something's suffer. So it's the interior. When it comes to performance, MPH and Seconds are what count, not interiors.

Again, I'm not a Vette fan, but I'm stating the obvious.

My dad is a Vette guy and I’ve always had a little thing for them... the one thing that I think Porsche does better than any other, is maintain the general heritage of their cars. You can see the lineage of the first 911 to the latest. Not so much with the corvettes and other cars. The new Vette looks cool, like every other sharp angled, edgy car. I like my dad’s 65 convertible. This new one... it’s ok.

Corvette = Bang for the buckI liked the old look...and I like the new look...although it has lost its DNA.
For a 60k$ starting price it looks great.
If it would be 160k$, then it would not be so overwhelming.

It shouts: Welcome to the world of (REALLY REALLY AFFORDABLE) SUPERCARS and that was probably the goal. If that will boost the brand Image into the SUPERCAR/Hypercar league...uhm, not so sure.
But my first second impression was...a Corvette? uhm...why not!

I'm sure it will be a performance beast but the looks do nothing for me , but in general I do not like most modern cars with all the angles/edges/exaggerated openings . Too many cars look like a large mouth bass from the front I hope it is a success for GM as I'm sure they have a lot of $$$ invested in R&D . I may be stuck in the past but when I look at my 02 S I see a revised 550 spyder with nice classic lines and curves . But to each their own

			Not shure about the design.
Think GM had the chance to bring something completely new when changing to mid engine. On pictures this is a kind of exterior design flop to me. Have to see it in real life.

I recall sampling 'vettes back when I was buying my first Boxster. Ponderous. Unimpressive.
But this is a whole new design with lots of new engineering. So were I in the market for a fun car, I'd be willing to take another look once the initial dealer gouging calms down.

I've been reading of predictions of a mid-engine 'vette for a s long as I can remember - like articles on flying cars. They finally did it!
 That alone deserves praise.

I agree kind of apples and oranges thing, I wont compare against a boxster as i think different type vehicles.

Maytag spot on interior could use attention. Extra 3k might help adds to class.

I've never owned a Vette...Came close in '85 (glad I backed out!). My brother has had a few Vette's that I've been able to drive over the years...a '78 pace car, '86 and '92 coupes and lastly, a 2006 coupe. The 2006 is the first Vette that made me go wow! The build quality and performance of the car was orders of magnitude better that the earlier cars and kind of put them back on my radar (slightly).

I'm all for what Chevy does the Vette and would love to see this car in person and go for a drive.

One other thing. None of us that has experienced the 986 or 996 soft interior finish has a leg to stand on when dismissing Corvette interiors. I'm in the middle of stripping off all the peeling gray finish of my console parts right now on my 996. I'd have been 100% pissed if I'd bought one of these cars new and found out that if I could scratch my console if I looked at it the wrong way.

It's VERY disappointing how easily that coating scratches. I had a Ford Escort with better quality finishes.

I stripped my console and other plastic parts on my 986 a couple months ago. The plastic underneath was not a uniform color, so I had to use a concoction of black dye and acetone. Turned out very nice!
