eBay catback for 200$ sounds great and takes 30mins to install.

Internal muffler bypass sounds better than a $200 cat back in my opinion. I've tried both. Plus the bypass looks stock and is cheaper.

Does anyone have a link to a diagram for the internal muffler bypass mod? I'd like to take something to show the muffler shop and see if they can do this.

Yes, thank you! That was the thread I was thinking of. I'm going to take that write-up and pics to a muffler shop here and see what they can do.

PW, you said,

Would a slightly larger bit have the same effect? 1.5" all the way through?

that's what my 2.5L came with also. sounds good except it drones badly from 2300-2800rpm
