convertable top wont go down

the top on my '05 Boxster wont go down.
the dashboard says "top is not in limit position"
what does that mean? thanks

It could be the top's microswitch or the hydraulic pump. Take it for a drive and then try putting the top down. If it works, probably the pump, as it's not coming up to pressure quickly enough without driving it.

Does (did) it make any noise?

Mom’s ‘06 had a gear in the left roof transmission split, and caused a pushrod on the right to break at the cap.

yes,i can hear the motor.the cover at the rear goes up.but the top wont go down.
It just had engine work done to it.through the dealership.hoping something just
didn't get reconnected right.waiting for a reply from them.
