Tire Recommendation

It's finally time for new tires. My tire sizes are:
205/50 ZR1793W
255/40 ZR1794W

Now the prices seem to range at first glance from 80 - 275. I am fully aware that the tires are the only thing connecting the car to the road.
The tires will be used 95% (or higher) for road use in dry conditions.
What are other people in the know using? I was hoping to get out of this for $800 or less. Doable with a decent tire?

Any advice appreciated.

I don't need anything crazy, just a good street tire that's okay for the occasional goof off.

Tire choice is somewhat dependent on what kind of driving you are doing.
Track
AX
regular around town/highway
Summer
winter
all season

A really good all around street tire (summer) is the HTR ZIII. Its probably the best bang for the buck for street. No need to spend more for a Michelin or ???
I have used the HTR ZIII and liked them a lot. I do have Pilot Super Sports on my DD wheels, but I did get them for free. If I was buying, for street, I'd probably go with the HTR ZIII's again or Hankook V12 EVO

You also can go to 225/45-17 front on factory wheels. It will give you better grip

+1 on Michelin

When I wore out the Bridgestone S02-A’s that we’re on the car, I went with Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
Not obscenely expensive, quiet, smooth, stick like **************** to a blanket and grip well in the wet too.

I’ve run Bridgestone S-02, S-04, Continental Pro Contact, Sport, DW, Michelin Pilot Sport4S, and AS3, and others.

The Tire Rack has a great guide to tires. You can also call them and talk to them. The are really great.

For a cheaper tire that would work great for you, the Bridgestone S-04 is very good.

The Continentals are also great.

Falken Azenis are great in the dry, but like a slick in the rain. But they are very good tires for the money.

A lot of folks here like the Firestone Indy 500, but I have never tried those myself.

Look at the Tire Rack’s “High Performance” tire choices in your size on their web site as a guide.

I put about about 20,000 miles on the Bridgestone S-04 and I liked them a lot. It was a great all around tire for not much money.

I switched from those to the brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and they are my new favorite tire of all time, but holy crap they are expensive.

I haven’t run them in my Boxster, however.

I have run them on my 986. Loved them. Stuck like glue, quiet as well. Good on road and track.....

I use them in the winter as well (Dry conditions)
You'll get about 20k miles out of the rear tires. A bit more from the front
Traction in the wet was never an issue until I drove in a rain storm with way to many mile on the front (Worn out)
I just did the rears for around $350 mounted and balanced

I am currently running Sumitumo HTR ZIII and like them a lot , they give a lot of bang for the buck . They do seem to flat spot if the car sits for a week or more , can fix that by driving more Previously had the Conti Sports and liked them also . Almost any tire with a tread wear rating of around 250 - 280 will be a good compromise for performance , wear , braking and noise .

Just drive a mile or 2 and the flat spot is gone

The HTR also take track abuse in stride being very predictable. I had them on my 996 Turbo for a quick fun day at the local track and they performed very well. This event was even with back to back sessions of me and my Dad intermediate and novice group respectively.

The 911 usually has r888s, switching to nto1 I think and the boxster now has rt615s. I’m lucky enough to have two sets of wheels for each car.

Of your choices listed I like the RS-4 and Super Sport PS4 the best. Both great all around summer tire that can take abuse. I have used the Sumis and they were just ok.

Bridgestone S-04 were another decent street tire that was quiet and comfy with decent grip, low cost. It was not suitable for track use though.
