A stupid question and embarassing situation
Okay, was in the process of moving this past weekend...in the midst of all the chaos/movers/boxes/..there is a chance that I might have lost the keys to my beloved boxster....
I am losing my mind looking for the key!! i'm gonna spend the next day and a half or so really ransacking the new place, I hope that it was not thrown out by accident....
okay worse case scenario....give me the damage, no anasthesia..what is the damage if I cannot find the keyy...and yes it was the only key...??
How long would it take to get a new one from the Dealer...
thanks guys

I believe if you have the tag with the 24 digit key code the dealer can order new keys from Porsche and code the keys to your car.
Not sure on cost but it won't be cheap- couple of hundred per key? And you have to tow the car to the dealer.
There are plenty of posts dealing with Boxster keys- just search 'keys'.
Regards,
derb

Hi,
No stupid questions, only stupid answers. Sorry for your troubles, moving is a b*tch enough without something like this.
Worst case, a Dealer should be able to fix you up immediately with a new key (suggest a spare also - ), but it won't be cheap.
Costs vary and I've seen $200-$290 for the cutting and programming of a key, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You can try to shop around, but I believe thay will need the car (possible towing charge) to plug the PST2 Tester in to do the actual programming so this may limit your ability to shop around. Good Luck - hope you find it...
Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

last time I was having service I stopped by the parts desk. The attendant said new keys were about $200 and programming was another $80. He said to bring all the sets because the programming was a one time fee, they charge you the same to do three sets of keys as one set.
Call the local dealer and have your VIN# ready. If you only had one set of keys then its a trip you needed to make either way. Time to crack that piggy bank open
p.s.
get one of those key finders that go on the key ring. Man, I lose everything.
Don't even ask me how many times I have lost my eyeglasses (nearsighted)
or sat on them. I'm finally getting contact lenses this week.

guys you are the best!!
If after another day of looking, I still cannot come accross the keys, I might have to bite the bullet and get the replacement key.
although i have learned that the only way to find somehting is to stop looking for it.

You realize, of course, that within an hour of springing for the $320 for the new key(s), you will find the originals.

Takes about 2 days to get the keys, although I do not have to TOW the car to the dealer, all I need is registration or a title and a form of ID....
well, well, this is an expense lesson..

well.well
Went to the Clair Porsche in MA, nice enough folks, I suppose they can't help regarding their high prices...
ANYWAY, I "pleasantly" found out that the key alone cost $320, then I need to get it programmed which is another $60, when the key arrives from ATL, I have to get the car towed to the dealer!!!! Nevermind that when I called earlier someone told me that the $320 would include the programming of the key......but I 'm not bitter...
As I write this, I feel my blood boiling...
oh well, I have no one to blame except myself!!!
It's safe to say that I will DEF baby this key around...!!
