When Michelin introduced the S4S, they emphasized that they spent a lot of time addressing / improving any shortcomings the PSS had. All that testing to improve costs $$$. Experimenting with compounds isn't cheap either. Advancing the bar comes with a price.

You'll need to describe how you drive, the conditions, etc. Do you do DEs? These things factor into finding the proper tire.

I switched from PSSs to the Conti Extreme a few yrs ago, not because it was a better tire but there was a shortage of PSSs and baby needed a new pair of shoes for COTA. The Extreme is a great street tire and excellent in the rain. It is not as good as the PSS on the track. If all you do is drive on the street, along with some spirited fun runs, the Extreme will be a fine replacement.

I've run both and.....

...this tire test between the two really sums it up perfectly.

That was a good write-up, thanks! I bought a set of the Contis a while back when I couldn't find the right size available in the PSS. I've been impressed with their dry performance, and they are fantastic in the wet. I live in the PNW, so that's huge for me.
