Durametric question
I seem to have lost my instructions for hooking durametric (dm) to car.
I'm thinking I connect DM to computer.
Plug cord to car
Turn key so dash lights come on (don't start)
Also, can DM be used to help bleed brakes on a 986?
Thanks.

Seems like a handy tool when looking at new cars.

You can use the Durametric with the car on or off, and you can use it cycle the ABS pump, I don't believe you can bleed individual calipers on the 986 with it. If you call Durametric I have found them to always be helpful
If you are using it when car shopping, be aware that the enthusiast version locks after it recognized 3 VIN's.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for responding. I'll give it a try.
Also, The dm site says unlimited for used car data for enthusiasts.

Yes, you can read basic data and it won’t register a new vin. I ‘m not sure just how much you can read though. Can I go into actual values to see the cam deviations for instance?

it'll read deviations, reset airbag stuff, and cycle the abs pump which is what you need for brake bleeding when you have traction control.

I should have appended “without registering a new vin” to my question, as in “Can I go into actual values to see the cam deviations for instance, without registering a new vin”?

I read that you can read anything, but making any changes or clearing codes registers the VIN. Not Certain that is correct though.

I haven’t made any changes yet, but have used it to clear codes. Still have 3 open vins

Not quite sure how it works. On my previous car I used the Durametric for 2 years and it never showed a registered vin. When I started using it on my present car, lo and behold the first car vin showed up but the new car hasn’t yet declared itself. It’s lurking in the background!

Before I drop my bad 3.2L engine, I'd like to read any failure codes so trying to buy a diagnostic scanner with this capability. Durametric?
