The Next Wheeler Dealer Car

2014 Boxster w/ 31K mi. Mahogany Metallic w/ Luxor Beige int. Lots of options. Great driving car. Assessing what items it needs (not very much). Watch the Classifieds when Brown Sugar is ready for sale.

Sorry for the lack of sunshine. OMA has suddenly become Seattle.

Great color and I really like the wheels. Sweeeeeet!

kjc2050 10-03-2018 02:57 AM

NICE. Stick or PDK?

husker boxster 10-03-2018 05:40 AM

PDK. Got 32mpg @ 75mph on my 400 mi drive home.

The wheels are 19" Cayman S wheels. They remind me of the 987.1 18" versions. Easy to clean.
The tires are Mich PSSs w/ 5K mi.

Today's activity is a 4 step polish. She will pop after that.

Gilles 10-03-2018 06:20 AM

I have seen that color combination in person and it is beautiful, also those CS wheels are my favorite ones as they look very clean, congratulations!

PS: you may be tempted to keep it instead 😁

Just got home last night. 42K mi with PDK. It's a Launch Vehicle!
Needs a few items repaired but generally in great shape with good maintenance. Clean CarFax, no accidents.
Watch the Classifieds, hopefully in 2 wks.

Nice find. Where abouts was it from?

husker boxster 11-15-2018 03:04 PM

Philly. I beat the storm hitting OH and PA by a day.

Ottomotion 11-15-2018 06:39 PM

New to the forum....whats your M.O.?

Buy from private party or auction?

Do a little refining and hope for a little profit?

dghii 11-15-2018 08:01 PM

Very cool! I bought an east coast convertible in the winter a few years back and did pretty good. didn't flip it though.
2003 Z4 3.0 6 speed...placed in service mid-May of 2003. $47K sticker. I bought the car in late December of 2003 with 5K miles for $30K. Paid $700 to ship to Florida. I owned it for 5 years and sold it for $25,500.

Other flips have been Boxsters that needed a maintenance brought up to date. Fun to play with and get in the hands of new owners.

I'm not a dealer, so no auctions. I find Porsches that need that extra boost to make them special. Porsche buyers are particular and don't want issues. I just ordered $200 worth of parts that probably let this one down by a collective $2000. And I've become pretty good at detailing (won awards at my local Porsche event the last 2 yrs plus multiple car shows). As they say on Wheeler Dealers, you polish in the dollars. Eliminate the issues, get the maintenance up to snuff, and make it look like new should result in some profit, just like on the TV show. But Porsches are not growing on trees in OMA, so I have to travel to find my cars, and that costs $$$. My last 4 cars came from PA, WI, AZ, and MD. Have to be good at est what it will cost to repair and get the car to OMA. It can get complicated but I've gotten better at it as I go along. That's probably enough of the look behind the curtains for now.

husker boxster 11-15-2018 10:53 PM

Double post. Shouldn't post early in the morning.

itsnotanova 11-16-2018 03:04 AM

Did Quirt hook you up with that part? I've sold him a bunch of 987's and one 981 for him to turn into race cars. He has tones on good interior pieces if he hasn't thrown them away yet. I think he may have given all the interior to his helper to sell.

I tested him and he got back to me right away but said he didn't have that switch. I found one on fleabay for a decent price. Regardless, thx for the tip. Hopefully this was the last piece I'll need to order.

husker boxster 07-05-2019 07:02 AM

Just picked this one up. Wasn't particularly looking for the next one, but it showed up and I made a deal on it. The details:

2014 Cayman S
44K mi
PDK, heated & vented seats, 14 way pwr & memory seats, bi-xenon w/ PDLS

I est 2 wks, maybe 3 to get it ready to go. It's a bit further upmarket than I want to go, but there aren't a lot of 09-12 cars out there. Watch the classifieds.

Very nice, good luck with the sale!

husker boxster 07-05-2019 04:33 PM

Thanks guys! Yes it is very nice. Just got done inspecting the underside - never seen one that clean, esp for the mileage.

Been spending $$$ like a drunken sailor today. $350 to the site sponsor and $1K to Tire Rack, but I think I've got the main things covered. While I wait for parts, I'll do my 4 point polish. It looks good now, but not next to my CSS. It will be spectacular when I'm done.

She got great gas mileage on my trip home.

Been busy with the 928 Mistress, so I've never had time to document my last Wheeler Dealer car...

During the transition period back in June when the lady from IA said she wanted to buy my silver 09 Boxster S and when she came to pick it up, I was contacted by a guy from the Sacramento area who wanted to buy a 987.2 Boxster S w/ PDK. Why is it a WD car can go for months w/o interest and as soon as 1 person wants it, another one does too? Anyway, I told him I'd keep an eye out for one but they were hard to find. The '14 Cayman S suddenly found me and he wasn't interested in it - had to be a Boxster S. It took about 3 mo to sell the CS, but this guy Brian would ping me occasionally to see if I had found anything for him. He seemed serious about wanting a car and me selling it to him. When I have a car for sale, I keep a Rolodex of potential next cars b/c you never know when your current car will sell and you need to replace inventory. But the few 09-12 Boxster S cars for sale were not cars I could buy and make any profit on. When I sold the CS in mid-Oct, I looked hard for a Box S but to no avail. Then the Mistress dropped into my lap. While the Mistress wasn't an expensive purchase (before all the $$$ I've spent since), there still were not any reasonable cars that fit my WD mold and he wanted to get a car so here's what I did:

I put a list together of the few potential cars that I would have been interested in if the price fit my model. There weren't too many. I also suggested he might look at the 981 Box S since there were more of them available. I added a couple of 2013 S's to my list. I asked him if there were any that intrigued him. Turns out he was interested with the 981. One of his requirements was no silver or white (yes, he was interested in my silver 09S but that's because there are so few 09S and most are the silver Launch Vehicle). There was a blue 981S on my list not far from him that he looked at, but the dealer / salesman was a dork and didn't treat him well. The other 981S I included was in LA. It was a dark gray, so technically not silver and he was OK with the color. I contacted the seller (private seller) and it ticked all the boxes. Contacted Bryan and he was interested. So I coached him on how to buy a car from long distance and what to look for when inspecting it. He had a PPI done, made arrangements to buy, flew down to LA, bought it, and drove it back. He was so happy, esp with the color. A few wks later, a thank you card with $100 arrived. That was nice of Brian.

He called me last wk to see how I was doing. He said he loves his Boxster and was so happy I helped him. I asked him to txt me some pics. Here they are:

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1588692334.jpg
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1588692354.jpg

So technically this qualifies as a Wheeler Dealer car. I have a local friend who wants me to help him sell his 09 Cayman S, so that one will hopefully be ready in a wk or two.

Hi Jake! Welcome back.
Based on some of the crap on MT, I think I could hold an audience. My 928 adventures would be at least a season's worth of filming. I have a friend who insists I should start a YT channel (I have one for my track adventures). While the monetization may be intriguing, I like to do things my way and I'm sure there would be 20 comments on how I did something 'wrong'. Plus John Ross of WatchJRGo and Sarah of Sarah-n-Tuned both comment on how much work and time it takes to make and edit a quality video. Not ready to invest in that yet.

But you never say never.

Probably true but I'm a believer that Karma has no expiration date.

We're still assessing value. He stopped by last week for me to take a quick look and see what I thought. He's currently having the Veloce Brothers detail the exterior. He talked about having me do the interior, but I don't know that for a fact.

Here's what I do know. It's Meteor Gray Metallic w/ Sand Beige int, PDK, 51K mi, very new Firestone tires, Sport Chrono, bi-xenon, PCM, Bose, heated / power seats. There are a pile of receipts, incl the window sticker and owner's manuals. One key. I believe he's the 3rd owner, having purchased it from his 2nd owner dad.

Here's what I don't know. There are mods, but I'm not sure how many or what they are. It's had a software upgrade, not sure if it's Softronic or Cobb and the exhaust has also been upgraded. The front bumper cover has been repainted and I think he said the rear cover was repainted too.

Once he has the car ready for me to sell, I can nail down a price. We've got an idea but I don't want to say specifically right now, right here without knowing more about it. We're going to do a CarFax, but that's been delayed b/c my CF contact hasn't gotten back to me (I may need to go with my other guy). There's also not a lot of similar cars like it for sale, so it's hard to get a handle on the mkt. Sorry to be so elusive for a simple question but there are too many unknowns yet for us to say for sure what we're going to set it at.

If you're interested, we can chat via PM or you can contact me at 531-777-4303.

Just by those details i know its out of the price range. Been looking for one around the 22-25k mark with less miles than my Boxster, it is time to upgrade. Figured id ask because you’re located like 60 miles away from me lol

Yeah, we're going to need north of that. I can say for certain the 1st digit will be a 3. I talked to him late Sun and he thinks it will be ready to hand over to me by week's end. The Veloce Bros couldn't get it in until month's end, so he's having someone else detail it. I also forgot it has Cayman R style wheels.

There were only 1966 Caymans sold in the US in 2009 - and that's base and S combined.

I cleaned the int yesterday, moving to the engine today. Should be hitting the classifieds in a few days. All we need are some sunny skies for a photoshoot.
