Painting Rear Bumper Guards

I have a 2000 Boxster and as a result of a minor fender bender, it’s in the shop getting the rear bumper and lid repainted. When I asked about getting the ugly black bumper guards painted the same color as the car, he told me it can’t be done and that the paint won’t adhere well enough.
I thought I read a thread here before about others getting theirs painted. Are there different types of finishes or material used to manufacture these bumper guards? Can they be painted? Has anyone done it?

Mine were painted by eric at bumperplugs.com https://www.bumperplugs.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=4_41 in Arctic Silver supposedly a hard color to match. I sent them mine and I had theirs with a perfect match in perhaps 2 days from order. They were perfect after 5 or so years. Highly recommended. Long time owner and supporter.

That's not true. He must just not want to do it. You could do it yourself. Not hard.

I did mine a couple of years ago. Paint was from Automotive Touchup

https://www.automotivetouchup.com

Process was simple and the results quite good. I posted pics to the 'What did you do...' thread.

I thought it sounded kind of odd. The strange thing is the place i brought my Boxster to is the only Porsche certified repair shop in Las Vegas. Go figure.
