Hello?!
Hey fellas,
Everybody okay on this side? Been a long time since I've logged on 986forum, been out on a rather long journey nobody would care to know about. I won't bother you with life impediments as I bet you all have some of your own.
Hope all are okay here, and yes I still have my 986 although haven't started it since 7-8 months (I think) + has a dead battery which needs replacing I'm afraid.
Is there anything I need to do before attempting to crank up the Boxster? I was thinking about changing the oil before, other than that all seems to be in line-with normal wear e.g. spider web on the steering wheel

Wow, welcome back Fred. I hope you're well. Still in Shanghai then? And yup, replace or charge the battery and change the oil and go! I won't ask for details but hope you're OK.

Ordered the battery today, should be in by tomorrow. I'll drop by Porsche tomorrow and pickup some oil/filters (the genuine stuff loll) and get it cranked this week. Miss that car... was in Canada/MTL the whole time and was stuck with a 2014 Mazda rental most of the time
Yep, back to Shanghai, literally came back only 1 week ago. Although still 2 months close to sabbatical year off and back to work haha
Hope you are good, miss the good times here, let's catch up later on

If it were me, I wouldn't change the oil until you've started the car and gotten everything warmed up. Drive it for at least half an hour, then change the oil. That will get all the sludge and deposits hot and suspended in the oil. They can then drain out with the old oil. If you change the oil without getting everything warmed up, the deposits will just stay in the bottom of the oil sump and heads, and when you put the new oil in and get it hot, the deposits will then dilute the new oil.

Welcome back to the forum. Like Racer Boy said, get the engine warmed up then do the oil and filter. Also check all your other fluids and tire pressure. Give it a wash and interior vacuum and drive, drive, drive.

How good is 7-8 month old Shanghai gasoline? Did you add a treatment before storage and how much is in the tank?
If it's a full tank and untreated, you may want to pay a thief a few ¥ to steal what's left in the tank.
Otherwise top it up with fresh gas and run through a tank ASAP.

Welcome back!!! I would keep an eye on the tires, when my Tacoma was parked for about 6 months in 2010 it damaged the tires and i had one delaminate on the highway in early 2011. If you've ever had that happen you will be able to feel it coming and should be able to.pull over before it fully comes apart.

Welcome back! I honestly thought you had become one of the myriads of frequent posters (that for whatever reason) just disappear into the ether.  You stated "long journey nobody would care about"...personally I think there are many here who do care, but as like most, I'm not one to pry....
Regarding the car...I wouldn't worry too much, 7-8 months is about a normal winter storage for me. Top off with fresh fuel, get the battery charged (or replaced if necessary) then do a few miles, check oil and change if you think. Rubber on road is the key point. .

Whoa, everyone is still here!!! Warm welcome guys, owe each of you one. Thanks guys.
So if I'm getting this right:
1. Fresh up with a 20gal of new gasoline (got that plastic tank here)
2. Replace battery
3. Start-up, warm-up to op temp, rev it once or twice
4. Cool it down a few hours, change the oil
5. Go crazy
(6. Change tires when I'm less broke loll)
Tires were kinda new from last year, 1.5 years I think, but I'll sure keep this in mind. Was parked on a hard concrete surface so that can't be good. Hrrr you shouldn't have told me that :/
986forum - the best of them all. Thanks. Still quite busy settling back but will try to be active as much as I can. Let's see what other problem(s) we'll find in that Boxster over the next few 4-5 days. Wish me luck

Long story short, cancer has claimed another innocent and by far the wrong person again. Someone blood related, single mom of two, I've volunteered to be the one who made it easy(er) for her. Long journey, learnt a lot about life man.
Thanks for asking, and cheers for the tips. That's what my mate said also here.. similar to a season storage so nothing to worry too much. Fingers crossed!
